Water System Guide

Hello everyone,

I hope you have been creatively hydrating your body. Today’s post, I’d like to discuss different water systems and their methods.

Gravity Carbon-based (and Ceramic!)

Carbon-based is the most popular filtration. It is effective at removing large particulates, organic matter, bad odor, and VOCs. As you may know already, not all carbon filters are created the same. There are different grades and types, such as activated, catalytic, granular, powder, and block forms, which determine their ability to remove further contaminants. Berkey used to be one of the highest-rated gravity flow systems, but there has been some inconsistency for a while.

A better alternative I recommend is Alexapure. Similar to Berkey. Alexpura has a lower water flow rate, more contact time between contaminants in the water and the filter, and less recontamination and bacteria growth risk due to its dense structure. What’s different is that the Alexapure has a ceramic exterior to block large molecules of contaminants. Silver in the ceramic prevents the growth of bacteria in the filter. And the carbon block interior filters out microscopic contaminants like viruses.

Alexpure is also budget-friendly, with a long-lasting filter that allows minerals to pass and does not require electricity.

Reverse Osmosis

With a tighter pore structure, the reverse osmosis (RO) water system excels in filtering out dissolved solids and smaller contaminants. However, one should be cautious; clean water is not the same as hydrating water. RO is an extremely painful process for water, using electricity to create forceful hydraulic pressure, stripping out minerals, and destroying the water structure. Often considered ‘dead water,’ RO water has low intracellular hydration capacity and scores zero for vitality. Over the years, I’ve seen many people continuing to be dehydrated from drinking RO water, and by simply switching to structured water, their energy level and symptoms improved significantly.

Initially, RO was introduced for commercial/ industrial use to filter a high volume of water efficiently. Whereas residential use can waste up to 25 gallons of water per 1 gallon of drinking water. I often say ‘we belong to nature, not it to us.’ I believe it is important to discuss health in the context of the current fragile ecosystem state, in this case, global water scarcity, and come up with a symbiotic solution for both humanity and our planet. RO is a linear solution. Besides, there are alternatives to RO, such as nanofiltration and distillation.

According to the Water Quality Association, the RO system has the most problems with biofilm buildup. It has also been reported that most people do not clean the tank regularly, so it becomes a breeding ground for parasites and other unwanted microorganisms.

Having said that, not all RO systems are the same. Some are designed more consciously, and others not so much. If you feel that RO is truly the right choice, then make sure you are diligent about restoring the vitality of the water with a structure device and minerals each time.

Distillation

If you live in an area with a lot of contamination, my recommendation is a distillation, which will guarantee the cleanest water. This is different than filtering, which pushes water through a barrier to hold the contaminants. From boiling, the water molecules and contaminants break apart from each other, and the steam (vapor) rises into a boiling tank and goes to a stainless condensing coil, where it’s cooled off and converted back to water. This is similar to the hydrological cycle in nature, where the sun heats the ocean, the steam goes to clouds, cooled off by air, and changes back to water. Distilled water also comes in handy if you perform an enema regularly.

Keep in mind that a distilled water system should always come with an activated carbon filter to remove VOCs. I was recommended to Pure Water by my mentors during my clinical nutrition training. The company is family-owned and has been around for over 40 years with the longest warranty in the industry. This means you get one and do not have to worry about another water system for the next ten plus years. Currently, they are having a sale and you can receive an additional discount using my code: DRKATHY.

Alkaline/ Ionized Water

Many of you asked me about Kangen water, which is an alkaline/ ionized water system. Growing up in Korea in the 80’s, Kangen was quite popular, and many were selling alkaline ionizers. I remember seeing it on the TV commercials, as well as my friend’s mother coming over with the machine to sell to our family. Regarding Kangen’s materials and technologies, I just cannot justify the price. There are far superior alkaline water systems than Kangen at half the price. The branding gets the sale, not the quality.

There are initial benefits and science behind alkaline ionizers. However, they are meant to be used for the short term. There are a few red flags. The first concern is filtration, which is not thorough. The second is metal plates, which can rust. The third is the electrolysis process, which is an artificial way to create structured, hydrogen-rich water.

Let’s go back to nature as our guide. Springwater is energized, and many scientists translate this as electrically charged. However, water in nature does not get its energy from man-made electricity (120V /240V) plugged into an outlet. The energy in springwater comes from multiple factors, such as minerals, pressure from rocks, surrounding sounds, vortex flow, etc. Man-made electricity is transient at the moment and will not permanently realign water molecules. Essentially, it is electrocuting the water rather than structuring the water.

Think about heating up water using a microwave vs fire. Which willl hold the heat longer? The source of energy matters. Our cells need foods and water with life force, not just ‘active ingredients.’ Ultimately, it’s the coherence of water that allows it to be our medium, solvent, and conductor of electromagnetic frequencies.

Scientific Methods

While science is only one domain, there are two scientific methods to confirm that water is structured. The first one is NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance). This measures the water molecule size. Structured water molecules should be quite small. The second one is recommended by Dr. Gerald Pollack, which is called UV Light refraction test. This determines how light reflects off the water as each phase (steam, liquid, solid) has different light refractions, therefore it can help determine what state the water is in.

Best Water System

Checking all the boxes of filtration, minerals, structured water, and dissolved hydrogen, I highly recommend SpringAqua. It has 14-17 filtration personalized for your location combing advanced nanofiltration, ion exchange, different types of carbons, nanosilver (this replaces UV light which requires electricity), and many more.

SpringAqua biomimics mountain spring water more accurately than any other system using different types of minerals that mimic rock layers and natural water pressure to structure the water. It is the first company to figure out how to stabilize and create dissolved hydrogen gas (most hydrogen water systems end up degassing). As a result, the water stays structured for a long time, sometimes even up to 3 months.

Studying their water with many doctors and scientists over the year, there are unique patterns and strong coherency that have not been seen before with other water systems. Recently a famous naturopath doctor, a researcher in nutrition and agriculture, Dr. Richard Anderson called it ‘radiant water.’

Personally, this is the best health investment. When you break it down the cost is only $1.60 per day. This is for intracellular hydration so the body can detox efficiently, slow down if not reverse aging, repair damaged cells, bring down inflammation, and protect from EMFs. If you already have a filter system, I strongly recommend running through a vortex device and adding minerals. My favorite device is called AquaEnergizer which has been certified to create H3O2. For those with complex health issues such as MCAS, POTS, Lyme, mold illness, and leaky gut, I recommend adding salt water or other salt/ minerals recommend in my Fullscript after structuring the water.

Warmest,

Dr. Kathy
